Tennis Courts

A Bailey & Sons specialise in the construction of tennis courts. The surfaces available include:

Grass

The traditional surface.
Natural occurring grass seed mixes can be put to many uses.

A fine grass seed mixture is usually suitable for tennis courts and bowling greens, while coarser grasses can be used for amenity areas, farm grasslands etc.
Grass has limitations to it's use in wet weather conditions.

Bitmac

Bitmac is a term used to describe bitumen tarmacadam. The material is an all-weather specialised porous tarmacadam surface, easily maintained, which can be colour coated with a slip-resistant acrylic resin paint.
Bitmac can be mixed to be porous, medium dense, or dense.  For tennis courts a porous mix is usually most applicable.

Multi-play areas use a medium dense bitmac, whilst for pavements and hard wearing surfaces, dense is more applicable.

Bitmac is a mixture of small stones and bitumen heated at the quarry source, delivered at approximately 150°C to site, laid and rolled for differing surfaces. This surface is ideal for tennis and multi-play areas.

Criggion Granite

An all-weather porous surface finished with loose grey green granite chips.
This is a pure granite quarried near Shrewsbury and used for various purposes (e.g. dressing on felts for roofing), and tennis court surfaces.

It is a green/grey colour with the size of aggregate dependent upon requirements for use.

Criggion granite has been used for tennis courts over many years, but does require brushing and rolling occasionally.

Artificial Grass

Again in an all-weather surface, this can be either sand-filled artificial grass carpet, or short pile carpet laid on a porous tarmacadam base,  giving a free draining surface.

Pile length varies according to use.
Sand filled surfaces can propagate moss growth if not monitored properly, and additional sand may be required if the area is subject to wind.
